Hannah Fink: Artist

Artist Statement

My work arises from tactile memories of childhood, of articles of clothing and other objects that are embedded in my psyche. I sew, recreating these images using wax impregnated fabric and paper, thread, wire, pigment, and other odds and ends, and mount them on paper treated with encaustic and pigment. The pieces evoke well worn items that contain a sense of history, a private narrative and often involve issues of gender.

There has been a natural evolution from past series of my work, from sculptural pieces of oddly sized furniture, particularly functionless chairs that either hung on the wall or dangled from the ceiling in the late 1990’s, to two dimensional paintings on paper of closely cropped body parts and facial features.
